As Pelican Development LLC’s Managing Partner for over 15 years, Mr. Sumek manages and oversees the companies multi-family and residential projects and holdings. Pelican Development has been responsible for constructing or rehabilitating over 60 luxury residential units in San Diego County. Many of Pelican Development’s projects are concentrated in San Diego’s coastal communities.
Prior to starting Pelican Development, Matt was a design consultant on the Meadows Del Mar development (Now known as The Grand Del Mar). He managed some of initial planning and design concepts for the club house, casitas, timeshares, golf course plantings and the projects entry drive design.
He also worked for a select few prestigious land planning, civil engineering and landscape architectural firms in Orange and San Diego Counties before starting Pelican Development. As a team leader, design captain, and project manager on numerous high profile, high visibility projects throughout California and abroad; a few notable projects were the Bacara Resort and Spa (Goletta CA), Tustin Market Place, Phase II (Irvine, CA), Long Beach Town Center (Long Beach, CA) and San Elijo Hills Community Park (San Marcos, CA).
Mr. Sumek graduated from California Polytechnic State University with a degree in Landscape Architecture. Furthering his architecture studies in Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy at the Santa Chiara Study Center in 1995. When not spending time with his wife and daughter, he enjoys golf, Mountain Biking, surfing, weekly softball, studying architecture and landscape architecture history.
